The Southern Festoon Zerynthia polyxena.

Given that the Southern Festoon is so distinctive, it's a surprise that we have so few records for the species. This is almost certainly because it is found so early in the year when most people aren't thinking too much about recording butterflies.

As can be seen from the current map, there are many locations where we have yet to find the butterfly and this is almost certainly because of under recording. So if you are keen to help us fill in the blanks for this species, please record your sightings at:
